About Us
Jonathan Thursby
Chief Executive Officer
Epic Studios Broadcast founder and serving CEO, Jonathan comes from a diverse background which stretches the industries of television and energy. He began his career designing and manufacturing industry-standard fixed rig cameras for motorsport racing, capturing never seen before footage of in-cockpit racing action. It was through a passion for motorsport and his knowledge of state-of-the-art camera design for extreme environments that served as entry point to the television broadcast industry. This soon led to his providing video technology for television productions such as Top Gear and live racing including Formula One and Powerboat.
Always at the forefront of technology, Jonathan soon identified a gap in the Oil & Gas market for high-calibre, durable cameras for offshore oil well applications which led to the establishment of Epic Studios’ previous parent organisation Extreme Video – a company still at the forefront of downhole visual analytics under current direction as EV.
Fast forward to the present day and Jonathan has once again rekindled his passion for television broadcast by staying true to his vision of once again turning Epic Studios into a broadcast centre of excellence. Always pushing for the absolute best quality and service in all filming productions, under Jonathan's direction Epic Studios bridges the relationship between technological excellence and filming precision.
Mark Dodd
DoP/Head of Broadcast & Crewing Facilities
Mark is an ex-BBC award-winning Lighting Cameraman/DoP. He trained as a BBC Broadcast Engineer then moved into Studio Operations before finally settling as a location cameraman. In 2008 he left the BBC to become an independent documentary filmmaker. His films, all of which he produced, directed, and shot, have won numerous international film festival awards and have been screened world-wide. This experience has given him valuable insight into the mindset and requirements of the production department, at every stage of the production process. He brings this insight to EPIC Studios where he manages the broadcast operation. Mark continues to work as a DoP on documentaries and corporate films.

Drone/Ronin Operator
Alex is the youngest member of our broadcast team but hones a wealth of skills enviable by even the most senior cameramen in the field. Specialising as a 2nd camera and gimbal operator, Alex has worked extensively on large-scale drama and reconstruction shoots over the past two years for October Studios and with a reputable clients list including BBC, Channel 4 and Discovery ID and has global experience at various worldwide filming locations.
Additional skills include being a fully-licensed drone pilot with an exceptional understanding of high-quality UAV shots as well as a firm working knowledge of sound, lighting, grading and editing functions of film production.
Gary Boulter
Head of Aerial Cinematography & Specialist Cameras
Gary brings to the Epic Broadcast team 40 years’ remote piloting experience 30 years' experience in the design & manufacture of mini-cams and specialist remote camera systems having worked for preceding parent company Extreme Video – manufacturers of bespoke camera systems for hazardous applications. He began his career designing and fitting on-board cameras for World Rally Championship cars as well as those used in iconic BBC production Top Gear.
Having worked in some of the world’s toughest locations providing the highest quality footage possible, you will struggle to find a camera system or remote vehicle Gary couldn’t build and shoot with! Gary has spearheaded many one-off special designs for Epic Studios Broadcast enabling our production teams to access the toughest and most remote filming locations.
