A trip down memory lane...

Epic Studios' History

Epic Studios was originally home to the Anglia TV network that produced classic ITV shows such as ‘Sale of the Century’; Roald Dahl’s ‘Tales of the Unexpected’ and ‘The Chief’. The studios have also hosted many popular chat shows including: ‘Trisha’, ‘Loose Women’, ‘The Wright Stuff’, ‘Frank Skinner’s Opinionated’ and ‘Knightmare’ game show and provided sets for the award-winning children’s drama series ‘The Secret of Eel Island’ (also filmed on location at the Norfolk Broads).

In 2012 Epic Studios was acquired by Norwich-based production company Extreme Video, wholly-owned by current-serving CEO and inventor of world-leading fixed rig camera technology Jonathan Thursby.

In 2019 Epic Studios conceived a new Broadcast Facilities arm spearheaded by Jonathan’s long-time friend Jamie Knights (DOP), who himself brings over 25 years’ specialist filming experience to the organisation. Marrying Jamie’s filming expertise with Epic Studios’ dedicated crews and state-of-the-art facilities led to the inception of new organisation Epic Studios Broadcast.

Jonathan bears a lengthy career history centred around specialist filming applications for extreme environments predominantly within television broadcast but stretching across a multitude of industries as diverse as Motorsport Racing and Oil & Gas. Through Extreme Video, Jonathan has a proven track record in the design & provision of bespoke camera systems for capturing footage in the most challenging of broadcast conditions, leading the technology to become industry standard on-board cameras for productions such as Top Gear, World Rally Championship and Formula One.

Through this unmatched knowledge of filming technology coupled with a steeped experience within television broadcast & lifelong passion for all things film, Jonathan’s vision is to steer Epic Studios Broadcast to become an industry-leading broadcast centre of excellence. Today the company continuously strives to be at the forefront of technological innovation and filming expertise, utilising state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities with a focus on facilitating new, exciting productions from around the world.
