It sits in the “grid cloth” series between the lighter quarter-grid and heavier full-grid fabrics. According to manufacturers, half-grid cloth typically softens light with around 2 stops of light loss and retains better directionality compared to heavier diffusions. It’s commonly rigged as an overhead butterfly, mounted on an 8×8 frame, used for broad-soft light with spill control, or as a large modifier
