This diffusion textile is used primarily overhead (on a butterfly frame) or as a large soft surface to soften direct light and introduce ambient bounce. For example, one rental listing notes: “Softens and diffuses direct light, and introduces a significant amount of ambient bounce… Approximately light loss – 1.6 stops.”
It’s rigged via ties or grommets to an 8×8 frame or overhead grid and is a staple in production lighting kits.
